How Do I Stop Having Sex Outside of Marriage?
The question of sex outside marriage is more complex than people initially think. After all, you will get different answers, depending on who you’re talking to. But the Bible is definitely clear about what God thinks of this kind of intercourse.
Sex outside of marriage is called “fornicationâ€. It is mentioned in several parts of the Bible as something that God disapproves of. After all, fornication is an unholy use of our bodies – which God has given us. Knowing that, you need to take steps to avoid or stop having sex before marriage.
First, you need to be aware of the consequences of extramarital sex. This includes sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies. These things can happen to anyone, anytime they have sex. Even if it’s their first time, even if they’re using condoms, and even if you truly trust and love the person you’re with. There are also emotional consequences from sexual intercourse, including the formation of a strong emotional bond or attachment with your partner. Are you emotionally and mentally equipped to handle it? People often forget that sex is more powerful and more spiritual than just the simple search for pleasure. This is why God intended sex for marriage – because only in the sanctity of marriage will you experience the pure, life-giving purpose of sex.
Next, you need to think about why you want to have sex outside of marriage. Is it out of peer pressure? Do you want to feel loved and appreciated? Are you ashamed to be a virgin in this time where people are promiscuous? Examine your reasons and see where the problem really lies. Usually, the reason why you want to have sex has nothing to do with sex itself. It usually has to do with a crushed self-esteem, or the fact that we are continually bombarded with wrong ideas about sex from the media.
You also need to consult people form your church, as well as those whom you feel are adequate spiritual advisors. This may include your pastor or minister, people from your church group, and even your family. More often than not, you’ll find a lot of wisdom from these sources. Then can help guide you to strive for better spirituality rather than active sexuality.
Finally, don’t forget to pray to God and ask for His guiding hand to help you become a stronger person who can resist temptation.
