Dating For the Christian Teenager

Most Christian teenagers don’t know much about dating, especially when they’re just starting to get curious. They are often too shy to ask older, more experienced people for advice. It’s a good thing that several genuine Christian websites and services help answer most of the questions and concerns of the average Christian teenager. If you’re a Christian teenager looking for insights into the dating world, here are some things you need to know in preparation of the beginning of your dating life:

You should always put respect first. You need to respect your date, and expect respect in return. This means you should respect their thoughts, opinions, privacy, and their body. Never do anything that makes either of you feel unsafe or uncomfortable. Dating should be fun and relaxing, and it can’t be that way if either of you feels threatened or intimidated mentally, emotionally, or physically.

You should have a life outside of dating. Most teenagers get so involved with dating once they start. They forget all about their friends, their family, their academics, and some even forget God! All these other parts of your life are more important to your dating life. After all, they will give you a strong, secure foundation for your future. Whatever activities you’ve been engaged in, whoever you were hanging out with, and whatever it is you were doing for your church – continue doing these even while you’re dating. In fact, it might help to involve your date in these parts of your life as well, since it will help you get to know each other better.

You shouldn’t compare your dating experiences with others, especially the ones you see on TV or the movies. People have different beliefs and philosophies in life that may not coincide with yours. If you see them taking steps in their dating life that you don’t believe in, you should stick with your beliefs and don’t compare yourself with them. Also, be aware of the wrong messages in the media about love, dating, and romance. What seems good in fiction may not be good in the eyes of the Lord.

Speak with someone from your church. Whether it’s your minister or your peer advisor, it helps to speak with a respected person in your church. They can help you through the process of dating, especially when it comes to keeping your dates within what is truly Christian. It also goes without saying that you should turn to God for guidance, and pray to him about your dating life.
